Pardonnez-moi Richard. I would like to interject some views here. First, the ABS works when it detects lock up. The brakes lock up to to the loss of friction between the tires and the road.
An early fall snowstorm came through Michigan and Canada, and the NE portion of the USA in the last 4-5 days, catching all of us off guard--- not to mention the fact most if not all of us have not thought of putting on the snowtires yet. More than likely this is what happenned to Christian. The summer tires of his vehicle lost friction with the road/parking lot surface as events unfolded in front of him causing him to slam on the brakes.
His ABS system detected the lock up and performed as it was designed. However, when that minivan in the distance grows larger and larger and larger thru the front windshield at speed---one tends to think that the ABS is mucked up.
Below, I posted what tires were on the car at the time ??? Christian chose not to reply to this, but rather (still) seems to think its an
ABS issue.
Christian, if you could have had the same experience of last weekend in your SAAB wearing snowtires instead of its summer tires, you would probably have a much different and positive experience to post today.
Thanks Richard, for letting me add to your post.
Regards.
