87 octane does cause knocks...

...at least for a fraction of a second. Every time I have tried 87 octane (maybe 4 or 5 times), I experience noticeable low-end knock for maybe half a second before (I suppose) the ECU adjusts itself. But you still have that adjustment period with knocking, and it drives me nuts, so I go with 92 octane instead. I can't say there's any more power, but there's never any knocking.
