Many folks do not turn rotors and have good results. Yes a shop can turn your rotors every time you have brake work. But then they can charge for new rotors every other time.
So if they look great and are not warped, then that is good enough.
When rotors are turned, especially the non-vented units (on the rear), then these thinned out rotors seem to be much more likey to develop warping. So in some cases, a rotor left alone will provide good service, but will warp after being machined.
If the rotor is in rough shape, skip the machining, and shop prices, and simply get new aftermarket rotors.
