I think the quality of the plastic used in the 9-3 interior is fine and don't see any signs of it wearing out or becoming brittle...especially with the tinted windows filter out more light than in my previous cars.
I think what some people gripe about is they want a "richer" looking vinyl and plastic that looks more supple and leather-like. That is condition of personal taste. The Saab interior is very functional and I appreciate the ergonomic factors like all buttons and controls having a slightly different shape so I can use them by feel without looking at them.
I think some people have got the impression that the Saab interior plastic is "cheap" because of the manual heater temperature and air flow knobs cracking. That is not a fault of the plastic, as you probably know, any plastic knob will eventually crack if the mechanism it is turning begins to bind (which was the root cause of the broken control knob problems).
