I read it today at library and the four cylinder SAAB that Yates can't say enough bad about really beat the pants off the bigger engines. His bias comes through in his text and the subjective items. The SAAB should have finished in the middle of the pack and much nearer the top of the list. His numbers and comments on cars that finished higher refute the 6th position for SAAB. How they chose these cars which are not evenly matched is beyond me. The 9-5 manual shift would have been a better choice. They also used a technique of changing drivers frequently between cars which favors the cars that are designed for middle of the road drivers. Any "getting-used-to" items such as torque steer would certainly come into play in the speed evaluations. Sorry I don't have the numbers to discuss but they were more favorable for SAAB than the ranking showed.
