CD & "Badge engineering" hypocrisy

CD used to criticize manufacturers that took one model and rebadged it under a different affiliate's name (ie Explorer/Mountaineer, Trooper/Passport). Then one day I'm in KMart and I see Car and Driver auto products, oil filters etc. Gee, who sold out now? The Corporate (Hatchette-Fillipelli, Inc. publishing empire) search for ad revenue will always trump independent reporting!
But I still fondly remember CD's 1966 or 1967 "England vs France!" road test issue with the two female torsos on the cover body painted in respective flags, a classic!
They used to have their moments, but Automobile is better.
