Took my 9-3 around the Nurburgring this morning. Marvelous shifts and this time my son and I were both able to set the car nicely through the turns. It was great and allowed me to see how well the Saab could do. Never missed a shift. My son, who wears size 10 Timberlands, but not as a preferred driving shoe, found the pedal spacing perfect for heel and toe shifting, allowing some decent lap times. I checked on several European cars a while back when I got the opportunity. The feel of the shifters in the new Audi A4, the Opel Speedster, and the BMW 325Ci were very similar to the Saab. My 9-3 has 52,000 miles on it and works great. As for Ford shifters, I hated the shifter in my Dad's Escort, but my 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had a marvelous shifter as did the 1989 Contour SVT I test drove. After this morning, my son now wants me to send the 9-3 to Atlanta for him and take the Integra to Hawaii with me when I move this summer. The answer to that one is a resounding NO!
