My point about the car being too fast wasn't just about top speed. A slow car will take so long to get to it's top speed that there isn't room for it, and people will just plod along slower than in a high powered car. Believe me, my average speed is *a lot* faster now that I drive a Saab turbo. If you're not a skilled and experienced driver you can get in trouble a lot faster with more power under the hood.
As for the Princess Di thing, a 9-5 and is quite a lot safer than the S-class she crashed in, and besides as jc correctly pointed out, she only died because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. She died of internal injuries from being thrown against the seatback (she was sitting in the back). The guy who survived was sitting in the front passenger seat, and he was the only individual wearing a seatbelt out of 4 people in the car.
My opinion is that 16 years old is *way* to young to have the responsibility of driving a car. There is a reason that USA is the only country in the western world where you can get a license at that age. On top of this the drivers education is a joke. You have no mandatory slippery track driving for example....
