1. Is there a light under the hood of the car? I was a little surprised to open the hood at night and find complete darkness (even my '87 Bronco II had a light). Just didn't know if I was missing a bulb somewhere.

No light. What do you plan to repair by the side of the road at night? :)

2. The manual mentions a "built-in toolkit" in the rear of the car…is this just referring to the spare tire jack and crowbar?

Jack, lug bolt wrench, no crow-barz, screwdriver with four ends, and a spark plug wrench thingy, got owners manual?

3. Has anyone tried the Sylvania Cool Blue headlights? Didn't know if they were worth upgrading my standards bulbs. I know many people mention the Silverstars but those cost a bit more and I didn't know if they ran too hot for the wiring, etc.

The burn out in 3 to 4 months. Don't waste your money. Do take the lamps apart and clean the lenses, bulbs and reflectors.

4. Is there a way to be able to keep the headlights or hazards on if the key is not in the car?? I had to park for a few minutes the other day to run in someplace and couldn't figure out how to keep them on after removing the keys.

Middle position on the switch.

5. The car has around 40K miles on it and the previous owner used regular motor oil. I'd thought I'd heard that going to the semi-synthetic 5W-30 would be best for the engine and turbo (and possibly even increase fuel economy a bit) but my local dealer said it wasn't really necessary. He said Saab didn't spec the semi-synthetic until 2000 and if it had always been filled with regular oil it might not make much difference. Any opinions on that?

Use Mobil One 10W30 or 0W40. Delvac One 5W40 is great too, but hard to find and marketed to the diesel market. Get PureOne oil filters.

6. This one's probably silly, but beneath my fold-down armrest there's a small, square pit at the rear of the center console. I guess I could keep things in it, but it looks more like there used to be something in it. Possibly a cup or change holder?? Any thoughts?

Not much in there.

Read and learn how to inspect and replace the idler pully and belt. Change these next year and keep the old ones with the spare tire.

Use NGK BCPR6ES11's gap to .039" nominial, but .035 will stay in prime range longer.
