Owning one of each having similar displacement, I prefer the turbo to the supercharger.
From a fun point of view superchargers are transparent (i.e., boring), meaning you don't know the thing is working because it is always on boost (relative to rpm), compared to a turbo that you can certainly feel in the seat of your pants as boost comes on as you request it with your right foot. That being said, a supercharger needs to down shift to generate boost, whereas a turbo is more elastic (more tourque at lower rpms which also happens to be a characteristic of diesels).
Also, superchargers REQUIRE high grade gas because the fuel goes through the compressor, whereas a turbo can get by on the cheep stuff because the fuel comes in after compression (not that I buy low grade gas, but I could). Both get very good gas mileage.
I don't see any reason why saab would make a jump to superchargers, they have very good turbo systems already.
