Most OEM turbos have boost lag, not turbo lag. You can get much less turbo lag with a MBC or a SMBC and an SBMC will work well with a T7. If you don't like the lag, fix it!
Centrifical superchargers do have lag.
Because a diesel does not have a throttle, it moves lots of air all of the time and is also lean burn most of the time. All of that air flow means that the turbo is spinning and boosting when at highway steady speeds when a gasser turbo is not doing much and there is still a negative manifold pressure because of the throttle. So the diesel turbo is working and spinning more all of the time, so turbo lag on the diesel is greatly reduced. As there is no throttle, there are no off throttle flow problems and there is no need for a BPV or BOV and no issues with the turbo getting slowed down by halted air flows during shifts as with a gasser. So the turbo on a diesel is not slowed down a lot during shifts.
Diesels don't knock because the fuel is burned as it is added. There is no fuel during the compression stroke. A small pilot injection may start a bit before TDC.
