I think all of us have run out of gas once or twice in our lives. I try to avoid tempting fate and try to gas up before the gas tank warning light comes on. Sure, if you are driving 370 miles, you can do it on one tank and get home with a gallon to spare, but then you have to buy gas the next day anyway so why wait?
You never know when you will get stuck in a jam or if there will be a power outage (gas pumps don't work w/o electricity) in the winter. Advise you stop playing daredevil with SID DTE since running the tank bone dry is not terribly good for the fuel filter or fuel pump.
