I haven't read the article but look forward to reading it!
Sport compact did a comparison a few year back & they compare 15 to 18 in wheels on a integra or a similar good handling FWD car. They used the same 205 width tire & did the test at a roadcoarse measuring laptimes, cornet speeds & top speeds down each straight.
If I recall the 17 in wheel was the quickest around the track with the 18 in being a close 2nd by a few tenths of a second. 16's were next with 15's being the slowest & all tires were the same model. As wheel size increased steering feel as well as leteral G & speed through the turns also increased. The 18's had the highest speed in the turns & was slightly slower then the 17's down the straight with a mph or so slower.
It is true, bigger is not always better & the lighter the wheel you purchase the better off you are!
