Careful with cutting the bump stop, especially if it came with the kit, like the old Koni shock/spring VW kit I had. It could allow the piston to contact metal and damage the valving of the shock (valving was at the end of the piston). Koni may not warrantee the shock if it can be shown damage was due to an improper bump stop and it contributed to the damage.
If the kit reuses the original bumpstops, get new ones since the old one may have gotten hard or split internally and not doing their job.
I have always found Koni to be excellent on their warranty service. Twice I had rear shocks develop an air pocket that thumped on compression (air compresses, hit the oil and makes a thump). They sent the new shocks with a prepaid mailer to return the old ones in the same packaging to the plant in Virginia.
