As dean has said, it sounds like the piton needs to be pushed back into the caliper.

Here is a trick I learned while doing mine. Before you unbolt the caliper from the steering knuckle. The stock SAAB pads have a notch in the top on the caliper side where you can wedge in a large flat head screw driver. Between the pad and the piston. Keep working the piston back and inserting the screwdriver deeper into the space created till you have good amount of leverage, you can now push the claiper back with the screwdriver, pushing against the backing of the pad. Keep doing this till the piston is all the way back and the clips that secure the pad to the piston have popped out. Now you can unbolt the calpier and it will basically just fall off the rotor. This is good for people with severely grooved rotors, no wrestling the caliper off the rotor. Also good for those of us who dont have a C-clamp (my situation). And as another bonus the pad is already unclipped from the piston.
