I also sought to rule out the drive side clamp (US), but the SAAB techs swear to me that they have never seen a problem with the OEM clamp. Of course, most of my SAAB Techs do not drive a clamped 900-93 so what they do not know is that the stresses places on the clamped rack may be transferred to the OEM clamp. In any event, there has never been correlation in regards to causation with the OEM clamp. ALl improvements were the result of replacing the OEM passenger side OEM rubber doughnut with the MP Performance Clamp and Brace. This equipment has been excellent and has I not insisted the techs tighten up my bolt-on on occasion, I would no doubt be satisfied. I suspect the overtightening damaged the rubber bushing in my MP clamp so I plan to replace it with another MP clamp this Thursday. It is also possible that due to over torqing, the threads on the two bolts and nuts that secure the clamp were compromised although, ruining the thread is not that easy to do (unless they are made of brass or lead and they were not).
In any event, I would state that my steering is terrible now, I would only state that is was tighter and more responsive before the latest tightening fix loosened up. I suppose I should avoid having my mechanic over tighten the replacement clamp or I will simply use my wratchet set to occassionally check the equipment. When I got the car, the steering was so tight, it was hard to turn the wheel. Hopefully this overtightening did not damage the components that make up the steering rack.
If I can not address the problem, I suppose I will accept fate's decree and begin looking for my next sport-hatchback - the A-3 looks promising but I would really would prefer something a little larger.
Also, no one should take my issue out of context and understand my problem to be related to any defect in the fine products produced by MP Performance. I feel the more likely cause is a mechanic who utilized too much elbow grease.
Does anyone know the replacement part # and SKu for the bolts and nuts that hold the clamp in place. I need to instruct my dealer to have these on hand for Thursday.
