Viggen vs. 9-3 (vs. c900) -- opinions sought

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool c900 guy and I've been looking to get my hands on a sweet c900 (I've had 6 of 'em over the years). I'm in New England and I've been looking for a Southern car to bring up here. I found a [near] perfect car in So. Cal. except it's an automatic. I talked to a couple local mechanics about converting it to a 5 speed and one guy said, "Why would you do that? Have you driven a 9-3?" Then we got into a discussion about new vs. old, etc.
Being a c900 snob I hadn't considered a 9-3 but he got me to thinking, and that's where y'all come in. Any c900 to 9-3 advocates out there? The primary things I love about the c900 are:
- comfort for a tall guy (6'5")
- awesome cargo room
- unbelievable in the snow
- excellent visibility
- I love the way the 3 door looks
- surprisingly good MPG
- bomb-proof engine
But, being a practical sort:
- a 5 door 9-3 isn't bad looking
- I imagine it offers similar practicality/cargo
- probably as good in the snow
- some of the typical c900 faults have probably been rectified
- probably decent MPG
I'm going to drive one in the coming days and assuming I'm pleased the next dilemma will be: Viggen. Those things look pretty mean, sounds like a kickass engine and, well, they look pretty mean :-)
So, let's hear it. Will I like a 9-3? Is a Viggen a MUST have or is a regular 9-3 satisfying enough? What kind of MPG are people getting?
TIA,
Doug
