I'm the original owner and has ~172,000 surprise/grief-filled miles.
Anyway, I have general questions I can't find by searching:
My airbox screws are rusty. I'm worried the torx heads will be completed rusted clean and I won't be able to remove them anymore. Where can I buy it (other than go to the dealership?) Similarly, some of my DI cassette screws are the same condition...
I hear noise that feels like the wheel bearings are going bad. However, I've since changed the front wheel bearings and went from 17" wheels back to 16". The noise is still there (one of the replaced bearing was actually going bad, but the other was still ok). It sounds like grinding. The noise frequency appears to match wheel speed. Any ideas?
My turbo is leaking oil. It appear to be leaking at the complicated V-band joint. (The one that was a pain to put back together) This leak can be seen very clearly from under the car, as oil is splatter all around it. My car works ok, but appear to consume oil when I drive it hard (turbo?). Turbo is not as strong as before... I don't know if this is related. Is my turbo dying? Or can I just replace some rings and seals and clamp and it'll be new again?
My retractable antenna (original) is noisy and doesn't go up/down all the way. It appear to be because it is a little bent/warped/curved. Can I just change the mast? Or do I have to buy the entire motor assembly? (Part number??)
Last: This is tricky: My engine had been consuming oil for 3-4 years now, but very very little, so I ignored it. The last 2 years or so, I've notice that it is also consuming coolant, but also slowly, but increasingly. The consumption has never been at a constant rate per time or distance. It can go 6 months with no loss, but after a long trip, it would be noticably low... Recently, after a 400 mile trip, half of which was in heavy rain, I checked the oil and found the dipstick cover covered in yellow watery oil. I of course panic because at the same time, the coolant level was a touch lower as well. The strange thing is that 200 miles before this 400 mile trip, the oil was changed (I always use Mobile1)
I figure my engine is on its last leg, and that I should look for a new car. Anyway, I wiped all of the watery oil away....4 weeks later, with very little driving, I checked my dip stick again, but found virtually no yellow oil, but just a hint of milkyness in the dipstick portion... The headscratcher is that I took a sample of oil for analysis and found no coolant. It obviously have water, but no coolant. So maybe I don't have a head gasket problem?! Opinions? Additional things to check?
