Hi Saab community, I just drove a 2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen back from Portland, to Chicago. It's a beautiful red 2dr hatch with 77,000 miles.I need some questions answered. I had it checked out by Automic Auto in Portland. They did a complete pre-purchase check. They had to replace the airmass sensor as it was not making full boost. The dealer split the cost of the repair with me. There were other oil leaks that they said are normal in these cars. However as I drove the car home I discovered that every night when I pulled in to a hotel for the night, the oil light came on and a chime rang. When I let the car sit for a time and checked the oil, I got no reading on the dip stick. Over the course of the 3 day drive I put three quarts in the car. I noticed no leaks anywhere when I examined the engine. I also didn't notice smoke from the tailpipe. There is a sticker on the windshield that says the next oil change is not due until 78,000 miles or December of 2010. Am I reading the dipstick wrong or what? The car does not have the PVC #6 update as far as I can see. The car is very clean and in excellent condition having lived in California and Oregon most of its' life. I need some answers. If I switch to synthetic will it clear things up?
