I wish I could afford to get something else, but my budget is really tight. I've done one autocx with the BMW club here in Denver, and it was tons of fun. The course layout wasn't too tight, since they have a smaller membership (than clubs like SCCA), they have a smaller paddock area, which leads to more space for the course. Heck, someone ran around there in an X6, so the course couldn't be too tight.
Trust me, I'm a CAR FREAK, I see where you're coming from. If I could get something else I would. What I really want is a project Nissan 240, so I can get a Silvia front clip and swap the KA24 for a SR20DET. I would LOVE that. I would love to find a Lancia Delta Integrale, or an OG Audi Quattro, but stuff like that will have to be a priority later in my life. Hopefully I have time and resources to get something like that some day.
As it is now, if I go with another NG900, I have the tools, the know-how, and the resources (you guys!) to keep it running, just like my 97. Plus, if my 97 nukes another fuel pump or DIC, it's a short trip to the track car to get the spare, which will let me get my daily driver back up and running ASAP, which in turn keeps my wife happy. Plus, it will allow me to learn how to do certain kinds of work that I haven't done yet (suspension, transmission) without taking my daily driver out of commission.
I'm the kind of guy that doesn't have an issue showing up to the autocx and being the "weird guy in a Saab"; I kind of like that. That said, I was only two seconds behind a guy in a 944, and I was on standard summer tires and my suspension is stock, except for the GS rear sway bar and he was on race tires and in a friggin Porsche.
End of the day, if I can have a spare car that helps my 97 stay running and I have an outlet for driving like a moron, then why not?
