If you can get the plug tilted sideways in the hole, you will be able to pry it out if you get a Wisegrip around the cupped edge.
It will deform enough to be able to slide out.
That's how I did it on the older engines when we were replacing a lot of freeze plugs due to rust.
Just knock it in and grab the edge with a Wisegrip and bent it out through the hole.
It won't scratch the cast iron block since the steel plug is softer than the cast iron.
