Well, you're talking apples and oranges here! comparing a FWD Saab to a RWD BMW that's hardly fair ( and to be fair, I know a bit about them as I've owned some BMW and will own more and I made a living for awhile servicing them! ) BMWs and all vehicles have their faults and foibles! BMW's have been known for massive oil leaks which they refused to warranty, silly designs, dumb engineering, and lately, they've gone all soft and heavy, slow, compromised and far from their ideal used to be "drivers car ".At one time, the 3-series was the benchmark for all sports sedans, but its once uncompromised tactility has been slightly softened in this latest generation." funny you mentioned the Saab steering rack which is actually a good design and could be modded to be improved easily. Let's do mention the magazine that tested a new BMW and it had a plethora of huge issues including their electric power steering rack that went bad, broke had to be replaced (under warranty luckily ) and as BMW has NO rebuild or repair kits for them you'll have to but a new one - from BMW (or mayhaps another bad one fr a junkyard ! ) the rack cost thousands ! and the magazine pointed out that in a few years it's gonna be a huge issue affecting used car sales and values when your 8-10-year-old BMW you bought for a song craps it's power steering rack what will we do ?
How Much Does a Steering Rack Replacement Cost?
The average cost for a BMW 328i Steering Rack Replacement is between $1585 and $2626. Labor costs are estimated between $176 and $222 PS I read your BMW is one of the most brilliant they ever made ! is that the one people are paying crazy prices for a clean example? must be fun saw a you tube video they said it was "perfect ". when I get $ my next sports car will be a Porsche Boxster used ones are now in viggen $ range! I used to work on Porsche, damn they are good! PSS why don't you do an engine swap an S 54 fr am M3 ? make an M3 clone like people make viggen clones you could get all the parts fr a wrecked M3 (or two )
