I just did my 3rd cable in 15 years. I prefer that I replace them on my schedule rather they let go when they want to. Luckily the first time is snapped was when I was turning into my driveway, threw in the clutch and snap!!!!
I just did one 2 months ago. I keep an extra FEBI brand in my spare tire well just in case.
I have the plastic adjustment segment. You gotta understand that the cable in these do stretch over the next couple weeks of use. Add to that the cables's rubber housing that mount/slides into the groove on the tranny bell housing is also getting seated/compressed into the groove over this time as well. So revisit it and adjust your tension.
You might want to ensure that you are snugging up the locking nut on the adjustment middle section. should have a metal nut that you snug up to the plastic expansion/contraction nut.
