Is it me, or is the issue of intake air touchy??
I'm using my engineering skills to try and develope a fresh air intake (ultimately for myself). I'm not trying to point the finger at other's similar devices and modifications. I just happen to have access to a stainless fabricator cheap, is all. My opinion is that outside air is always better than engine bay air, and "flow" is flow. Moderate bends in pipes do little to restrict flow as long as you have a demand, but bigger is better also. Air will travel where it needs to go. (Within moderation of course, but for our application it will). Insulation is also a plus. I have seen a big temp reduction at the intercooler discharge piping just by running a 2" piece of sealed flex to behind the grille, and into the stock airbox.
I'm not a Rally Car team member or anything...just a guy playing around with a toy. Sorry about stepping toes.
