The body holds up well. The engines require a fully syntheic oil, IE Mobil One 10W30 and better filters.
The shocks and upper mounts do wear out and many elect to replace with Koni shocks which are expensive. Some upgrade the springs and other front suspenstion parts but that is elective or a self imposed expense.
You can do the brake pads and rotors your self and save bundle.
There are lots of DIY performance mods for your enjoyment.
It is things like failed air con evap units that are expensive and a pain. These are seen quite often, but most folks are not affected.
The engine rear oil seal on your Saab will start to leak and you might see a seepage at the bottom of the bell housing. The $16 seal will cost close to $900 after you replace the clutch while you are that deep in labor.
But with 40K you should have lots of trouble free driving. Sounds like a great opportunity. Once you drive it you will probably be addicted and everything else is a distraction.
