how you drive and how far you drive each time you switch on the ignition. I just replace my original brakes (pads and rotors)at around 150,000 kilometers for around $US180 - I replace the rotors 'just because' at that price why go through the effort to save very few $. The bulk of the exhaust is original although the 'flex' pipe had to be replaced at 145,000 kilometers. The long life is due to long highway commutes that fully burn off the products of combustion that short trips don't and which lead to early exhaust system failure. I monitor the traffic and light ahead, adjust my 'closing' speed and use my brakes sparingly. I have had one dealer trip for a serpentine belt replacement (I now carry a spare belt, idler and tensioner pulley in the trunk so I can DIY in advance of a failure at about 100,000 kilometers). Currently my cost has averaged $C135 including oil changes (synthetic), tires, alignment, balancing, wheel straightening (don't ask!), a Clarion 6 CD changer, tinted windows, HUSCO armrest and any other 'accessory' I've bought. Not include is gas. Cost of ownership (exclusive of car purchase and insurance) is currently running at $C0.09/kilometer and including car cost and insurance (but without factoring in the resale value) is $C0.26 - other than an Acadian, this is one of the most inexpensive cars we have owned of the 32 new and used cars and trucks I or we have owned since 1958. My wife's Audi A4 on the other hand - OUCH and double OUCH!
