I was (not any more!) also in the market to replace my 95 900S and considered the Audi 1.8CVT. While I only wanted the base car with the sunroof, the only one that the dealership will sell are the fully loaded ones priced at C$39K. I also got the impression that these cars are "flying off the lot" and the price is not negotiable. To p*** me off even more, they only offered me C$6500 for my car! I was told that if I wanted the car sans options, I would need to wait a minimum 3 months. On the positive side, the car drove really well but I would probably work through a broker when I am ready to buy one.

The SAAB dealers (and there arn't too many in Vancouver) are pretty much the same. When I asked the sales guy 2 weeks ago about replacing my car with a 02 9-3 SET Anniversary, he told me I could get between C$10~C$11K for my car and he would be willing to work a deal on the 02 price. I show up this week to try and make a deal - the story changed big time. My Saab is now worth $7K and the only 02 are the fully loaded ones at C$42K. The base Anniversary model at C$38K is nowhere to be found and the price is not negotiable. He also made a comment that really ticked me off saying that the pre-'99 900 Saabs are cars that he would not personally touch!!!! What a pile of crap since this is the same guy that sold me my current car! My wife is still fuming over the experience and is really committed to NOT buy another SAAB. I think car salesmen have definitely "earned" their reputation.

Well, we are probably going to drive our Saab to the ground - it is paid for and start putting the monthly car payments to a fund towards a new car that we will purchase through a broker.
