I definitely dug Matrix Reloaded. They reasons are plenty, but probably the greatest is the richness of speculation you're left with at the end of the movie.
Here are some of my guesses (loose, unfortunately not unlike the workings of my brain)
1) The most insightful dialogue in the movie will turn out to be between Neo and the Counselor at the Engineering level (machine-man codependence)
2) The story line about the renegade code - programs defying central programming because of their own will to avoid obsolescence or their innate curiosity - is also centrally important. The Central code, though has plenty of man-made input.
3) The Mother of the Matrix is not the Oracle at all (hence explaining the Architect's scoff), but rather Trinity. Trinity was some sort of "feely" program that later became fascinated with the human concept of love. She remains willing to disobey central programming is probably primarily responsible for the need of another Matrix layer. Trinity's "specific" love of Neo will continue to confound the Architect whose faith lies exclusively in order.
4) Agent Smith, after his "experience" with Neo, is now fascinated by the human concept of free choice, and is willing to defy central programming to feed his curiosity. Ironically, he is obsessed with Neo, mostly because he is intoxicated with the idea of choosing who his target will be.
5) Neo's primary role is that of a messenger between the programs and humans. He is the touchstone for Trinity (love) and Smith (choice) is their respective battles to transcend machine logic. To humans, he is the savior.
6) The "predecessor" Matrices are stacked on top of one another, as alluded to at the end of the film.
7) "Control" of the various Matrixes is not purely a function of machine over man, as in the original Matrix. Instead, there are powerful men who (mostly) control powerful machines in order to control less powerful men. This allows for the layering of the matrices to keep the less powerful in their place.
(PS men, above, means both sexes, and it sounds less goofy than saying "humans")
(PPS: a seemingly disproportionate percentage of Zion members are black because a disproportionate blacks are/feel selves to be outsiders in the era depicted in the first level Matrix. It should be expected that those who are excluded from control of reality will have less trouble rejecting "reality".)
