allow 3 hours for this. You will be amazed at how much this is a family tradition in France - kids and all. They will be very well treated. we went to such a place near Chinon, which is the only area that serves their local red wine somewhat chilled. Also visit a winery or two - Saumur is good for that. Another great experience we had was we ate in a cave restaurant near Saumur - ask at the hotel where you stay. They served "pop-ups" with various fillings made in a stone oven in the cave. The cave is illuminated only with candles. Go late (no earlier than 9 pm) - you sit at a table family style with locals and your kids will have a blast. Mine still talk about this - it is very informal and the kids just run around (inside and outside) while the adults talk and eat and drink. Go to a local church on Sunday - very few tourists there. Rent bikes and ride in the countryside (I wish we had done that). Email me if you have any questions - I can look up more specifics. I love that part of France (Paris, too). Ignore what everyone says - the French are very hospitable outside Paris. Other french people think Parisians are haughty and rich, so no surprise you may think so too, but I had nothing but good experiences even there.
