use http://www.viamichelin.com or http://www.map24.com which give detailed instructions & print it out b4 you go... gasoline UGH $50/tank... & watch for the "pay at the pump" stuff they have weird rules about the MC/Visa stuff & machines only accept credit cards from France. If you are driving consider insurance through Travelguard Protect Assist which includes CDW.

in big American cities call a cab from your hotel; in France don't, hail one... if you call a cab from your 'otel they may start the meter running from where they are and the fare may be 20 Euros by the time it gets to you (not kidding)

call the consulate in DC or your home town or check google to see if there is ANY kind of utility (garbage, tube, etc) strike going on before you leave. *P.U.* Marseille: where even the trash smells nice June 16 2003 at 02:09PM Marseille - The French city of Marseille is to have its streets scented with citronella from Monday to disguise the stench of thousands of tons of rubbish left uncollected after an 11-day strike by trash collectors, the city's administration said.

'Pineau de la Loire' or 'pineasu de la Loire' doesn't mean what it sounds like... its chenin blanc wine(s)
