I think any decent set of slicks will get you where you're going. A few models have some grooves so you're not totally screwed if it starts to rain. For any bike tires, not just in the city, my money is on Michelin or Specialized.
Remember to be visible and expect the worst in a city riding environment. Expect people to cut you off, or open doors in front of you and it will be less likely to happen. Pass on the left. As a cyclist, I try to consider cyclists when I'm driving in the city, but it really drives me nuts when somebody tries to pass me on my right hand side as I try to make a RH turn. (and I always signal) It really gets me when they get mad at me for not seeing them try to zip by my RH signal at the last possible moment. Don't forget the safety gear. 2 years ago last Saturday I got the "door prize" which resulted in my elbow being smashed to bits and an early end to my biking season. Kind of ironic with all the mountain biking that I do on difficult off road trails and my worst biking injury so far occurred as I rode home from the trail!
