My impressions:
There is way more behind this story than can probably be "comfortably" written by the Taliaferro family. A case of the largest wallet-in-town getting the franchise? or major case of behind-the-scenes boot-kissing by the new franchisee.
To state that no customer from the (new) Cadillac-SAAB dealer would ever be seen at an owners convention is harsh. A SAAB-Cadillac dealer exists in Akron, Ohio --you know, near where the recent massive blackout is reported to have begun-- but anyway, Dave Towell Cadillac-SAAB has done a respecful job in that area--and has been mentioned several times in NINES.
GM executive "brass" are appearance-driven. The little guy working his tail off to better the marque as the Taliaferros did, cannnot compete with the $1,000 suits and monogrammed shirt cuffed jet-set that GM likes to "see".
Robert Hendry, now retired, was the most unassuming GM/SAAB boss in that respect. Sot spoken , yet very powerful---I saw him at the North American launch of the 9-5 and he looked/dressed like my neighbor---he was surrounded by the GQ looking-good, custom-tailored, pressed and starched junior exec crowd who seemed more concerned about the wine being served than the needs of the dealer network.
To me America is about the little guy. Nick was nice and professional to deal with. They promoted to "will" of SAAB-lore I've liked for almost 30 years.
I will continue to support genuinesaab.com and the Taliaferra business, and hope they continue to prosper.
My best wishes and continued success to you, sir.
