After a lovely Madrid-Barcelona drive in a rented Citroen Xantia on a two lane highway, US freeway driving can be hellish. Here in northern Califronia, it is often faster and safer to drive in the right lane and overtake at a moderate speed, usng the middle and left lanes as neccessary. Stupid, but true.
Interestingly, when driving in Detroit this winter, I found their lane disciplie to be noticably better than here. Given Detroit has mostly American cars, I found that surprising.
