And I tend to agree with a lot of what you have said.
I think Saab and GM wanted to get the 9-3SS right instead of take a risk with it. Saab has been a money hole lately, and GM could not afford to spend tons of money on the 9-3SS and have it suffer the same negative press (torque steer, quirkiness, etc). But in typical GM fashion, they over-conservatized the introduction.
The execution on the car isn't overwhelming, but it is very good, and light years better in a low of ways than the old 9-3, which was such an engineering compromise (high tech powerful engines on creaky old discarded chassis from a much smaller car). And sales are pretty good, so something must be going right. I'd like ot see no incentives and higher demand, because that is true test of good sales, but Saab is still a fringe player in a market dominated by BMW, Audi, Acura and Infiniti.
