Horsepower sells.
Period.
Saab is sacred oif sellign Horsepower. Perhaps the "not so great" performance of the Viggen in sales put a bad taste in their mouth.
The current line of 9-3's are underpowered in terms of marketing. Saab should have more HP in the top end model, and that HP should have been what the test drivers and magazine people had the opportunity to drive.
Saab took a step back with the new engine line up. You and I know that torque is where it is at, but tell that to Automobile mag who was very critical about the lack HP and the poor 0-60 times.
Saab has a bad habit of not putting the best foot first.
It doesn;t make sense, marketing and otherwise to not have a engine available in the 9-3 that will shut up the trade press and make peoples eyeballs set back in their head.
According to recent reviews, it woudl appear that the lower Subaru Forester can out do a 9-3 Vector in a 0-60 matchup... this is silly... just plain silly...
My guess is that Saab has been told by GM that they are not to push performance and they will not have an engine that is too good.
but who knows... there are factors at play that I dont; know and never will... I can only guess... so, like I said.. isn't it fun second guessing them?
