I also wanted a 32", but in a widescreen HDTV (since that's the size all broadcasts are heading in the next few years). No choices right now.

The next available sizes were 30" widescreen (offers the same "movie screen" picture width as a 34" standard (4:3 format) TV; Samsung & Philips, & last-year's Sony) & 34" widescreen (Philips, Sony, Panasonic, RCA, maybe one or two others).

The 34"ers started around $1450 (Philips) & went up (way up) from there. Also, only the Philips & Panasonic fit where we wanted it to go, so outrageous cost became a moot point. :-) We also wanted to keep it around $1000, so Panasonic was definitely out (nearly $2000). That left the Philips, but we eventually decided it wasn't worth the extra $500 more than the 30"ers.

We liked the picture & features of the Samsung more than the Philips (cost was the same). The best price we found was $950 at Best Buy, but we needed a new DVD player too & Circuit City gave us the best package price for the HDTV & Sony 5-disc DVD player (we replaced our non-digital-output CD player at the same time) during their "Labor Day Weekend Sale."
