Mr. Jeff Hall obviously didn't compare his '87 Saab turbo to any other turbos available at that time. My first Saab turbo test drive was in the new '85s, & I compared it that same afternoon to both the Porsche 924 turbo & the Merkur XR4ti. What a joke! The Saab was far & away the best all-around driver. The Merkur handled like a tree, & the lag could give you whiplash all day long. The Porsche handled very well, & the transition to boost was much better than the Merkur's, but the lag was still there. The Saab's transition was very smooth; it just went faster & faster without that rocket-pack effect. Not perfect by today's standards, but worlds apart from the other choices available.
