I'm hoping folks will share their own SOC reports in this thread too. For me, the highlight of the trip was that I was able to bring my wife with whom I've been with since 1988 when she first introduced me to a 1985 Saab 900 4 door sedan (it's ALL her fault). A good number of folks came up to introduce themselves and each had very kind things to say about that past 15 years of TSN - hearing those thing re-energizes me and having my wife there too to overhear them was a special treat.
It was a fabulous event. An enthusiasts convention, for sure. We even set a record for longest awards ceremony, I think. You can also blame Elle for Burt Levy for it was her bumping into him on a plane flight years ago that led to his very humorous albeit a tad long entertaining talk.
Best of all, Elle can't stop talking about Saab model 99's and how we MUST have one. Now if that isn't a good ad for taking your spouse to a convention... I don't know what is...
We got a sneak peek at some great 9-2 info (even a real photo of part of the car which looks 100% Saab) and 9-7 info. I'm a total convert to the SUV now. Although the 9-7X isn't for me, I see how Saab could keep 24% of Saabers who have opted to leave for an SUV in the fold! Meanwhile, I'll tool around in what I hope will be my first brand new Saab, the 9-2 with a turbo-charged engine. We also got to drive the six speed 9-3 Arc. Wow that was fun. You'll really need some open road to get all the way to sixth though! I even had the pleasure of meeting Debra Kelly Ennis. Holy cow, she sat through the entire awards ceremony and we rode up in the elevator afterwards together. I can honestly say I've never been more excited about Saab's future.
We had a very nice Crisman award presentation which, in a way, was part of a long healing process for many of us. The Crisman family members are exception people and it is no wonder at all that Kyle was so popular on TSN - I easily saw his infectious enthusiasm reflected in his parents - I can only hope that when it's my time to raise a family, I can impart a similar level of enthusiasm and independent thinking to my kids.
All in all, I'm so glad I came across the country to participate in the convention at Hershey this year... Now instead of coming to a convention once each three years, I think it's looking like every single year now.
Now I get to come home after a fairly long trip for me (got my baby sister married off too while out this way).
