If it is, in fact, the sensor, you can look at a few hundred bucks, easy. I damaged one working on the suspension of my C900 and found out a new one is in the neighborhood of $200. So figure that plus labor probably puts it in the $300 range.
In my case, thanks to Jim at Sobstory.com for a deal on a used part, I got the job done CHEAP.
The other guys are right on about the teeth, though. Have a look at the part they're putting in. If it includes the teeth, have them show you what a "ring" actually is.
