Legal advice needed... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Mon, 17 Nov 2003 10:18:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, everyone. Several weeks ago, a teenager driving a Land Rover Discovery rear-ended me on the interstate. We traded insurance/contact information, but in all the excitement, I failed to obtain the name and phone number of the individual's insurance company. The damage is minimal, although repair estimates are in the $1500 range. The driver said he talked with his parents and they would like to pay out-of-pocket rather than dealing with insurance. I sent a letter and quotes to them, but they have not responded. They will not return my calls and I am growing quite aggravated. The incident occured in Davidson county, but I reside in Cheatham county and the other driver resides in Rutherford county. What would be appropriate and effective means to get a response out of these people? I would just file a claim with their insurance, but I am unable to do so because of my ignorance on the day of the accident. I hate to make this a legal matter, but I may not have a choice. I realize state laws will probably differ on this matter, but I'm simply seeking out any advice or suggestions from the all-knowing Saabers. Should I contact law enforecement, county officials, an attorney, or just dismiss the whole thing? I'm going to try one more firm request for correspondence, hoping that will resolve the issue. Any feedback, questions, comments, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your input. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
