The only people who have anything to worry about from snipers are the people who want to steal something for a cheap price.
When I snipe something, I am serious about buying it. I put in the price at which I am indifferent to whether I get it or not. If someone else has put in a higher bid, either early in the auction or at the last minute, more power to them. The item is worth more to them than it is to me.
In auctions, people can get into a bidding frenzy. I'm not interested in getting into a bidding war. If I bid early, the interest I express in the item might get other people foaming at the mouth.
I've seen auction items sell for MORE than you could buy them at Sam's Club. The bidding frenzy is just part of human nature. I choose not to participate in that game.
The way I play, sometimes I lose an item by a dime, sometimes I win by a dime. No regrets, it's part of the game.
If you want to be immune to snipers, just put in the amount you're really willing to pay. However, if you do that before the last minute, you're vulnerable to every idiot in the world who thinks that if you're willing to pay $30, then the item must be worth at least $31.
Note, friend, that I made it through this entire post with calling you either idiot or scum. However, if you resent snipers, you may fall in the category of people who want to buy something for less than it's really worth.
Best regards,
Dave
