Ebay could be great fun if it weren't for all the sniping. The idea of fairness is out the window, & "beat the system" is the name of the game.
You want a lively auction with people who value the object? You'll probably have to drive to the local Grange Hall, 'cuz that era doesn't exist anymore in the compressed timeframe of cyber-auctions. Snipers take advantage of the auction's time cutoff by sneaking in at the last second to post a higher bid. Why's that unfair? 'Cuz "real" actions allow all bidders to consider if their last bid REALLY WAS their final offer or not. That may make prices run higher, but then the item truly ends up with the person who values it most. Sniping is just someone's way of saying, "I don't want to give anyone else a fair chance at buying this thing."
The way it is now, you have to decide what the object's worth to you & then be ready to lose it, or sink to the bottom of the pool with the rest of the sniping scum.
But hey, that's just my opinion ...
