I agree with you. A GOOD QUALITY cloth seat is cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, less slippery, lower maintenance, less expensive, and lasts longer. Tough to find good cloth seats though. That "mouse fur" North American velour DOESN'T COUNT as quality!
Unfortunately leather is seen as a premium feature due to auto manufacturer marketing. They can put $100 worth of leather in a car and charge $2000 extra for it. In many cars the fronts of the seats are the only leather in the vehicle - the rest is vinyl.
The seats in my Nissan pickup (heavy weave cloth) are like new at 17 years old/300k km. At that point most leather is showing cracks, torn seams, etc.
Sure would like to try my Aero seats in cloth!
I'm shopping for a 9-5 wagon - cloth interior would be a bonus for me.
