Had cloth in my 84 C900, which has actually held up well: kinda worn, but not tears or splits in almost 20 years. I surely wouldn't have had the same success with hides. On the other hand, the cloth Recaros in my 78 Scirocco (RIP) and my 86 GTI (also RIP) wore too fast and faded and stained too easily.
My '96 9000CSET has leather that the PO clearly took care of. Seems fine and just needs routine care.
My wife's 96 Ford Exploder has leather, which has been great and stands up to the astonishing abuse two kids and two dogs give it real well. I clean it and hit it with Lexol once or twice a year and it's fine. Friends with cloth in the same car have interiors that look like an explosion in a fabric factory.
But Saabs (and even the Exploder) have good leather. Not all leather is equal and the paper-thin skins in a lot of lower and mid-range cars aren't going to hold up, IMHO.
But if you don't like leather, there's always seat covers. Nothing quite like a good sheep, which I may do on the 9K if I can't get the seat heater to work.
Thanks,
Noel
