I dunno what it is. Happens to the passenger seat (where the wife sits) as well, any time we wear jeans or "tough" pants, like corduroy, etc. I wear many different brands of jeans, and it always happens - it's worst if it's raining and my jeans or wet. When I wear khakis or slacks, there's no problem. The jeans don't bleed in the wash, haven't become lightened/discolored - I just can't figure it out. There's also a band on the back of the seat where my belt hits it.
I've also tried a few different kinds of leather cleaners and conditioners, with no change, but that's a good point - I hadn't suspected the conditioner before, but it could definitely be the culprit. I just bought some Meguiars 2-step cleaner and conditioner, I'll give that a try for a few weeks and see.
Usually the discoloration buffs right out with a little rubbing, but it makes it look cheap.
As for the seats themselves, I highly recommend the Viggen seats - so much more supportive than the flat seats in the base 9-3 SEs and also this year's linears. No support at all in those.
