Do seek the advice of an electrician friend during the project, AND have an electrican inspect your work when you are done.
There are various seemingly odd "quirks" in procedure that electricians follow that make very little sense to someone not in the business or science of electricity.
You could either burn your house down or create a nightmare for the next owner if things aren't done properly. Sort of like when a DPO "fixed" an electrical problem in your car when they had it according to whatever skills and shortcuts they could manage or imagine.
