Let me be clear about one thing

First I really appreciate the discussion this has sparked. Tailgating is a safety issue. Turning the rearview mirror (which I rely on heavily) doesn't stop headlight glare in the sideviews (which I also heavily rely on). It distracts, and in some cases intimidates, a driver to the point of creating a compounded safety hazard. And in an extreme example, can cause fatalities (see the link below).
I just want to add that apparently some didn't survive my diatribe to the end where I clearly stated that given half a chance I'll let the driver pass. I strictly observe the 'keep to the right unless passing' rule and have many times, on a two lane road, pulled over to let another driver pass who obviously wanted to go faster. SAAB drivers are not volunteer policemen, we just want to get where we're going safely (and with a smile, of course).
There's a faction of our driving public who don't seem to be comfortable unless they're latched onto someone's bumper. Ever notice how cars will group together on the highway? If you're like me and drive faster than the general public you can see it on a long drive. Heading up the NYS Thruway I'll typically have a couple miles of clear driving and then hit a clump (gaggle?). Then it's clear driving for a couple more miles and another herd. And on and on. Even if the leftlane cruisers somehow figured out the protocol, I'm convinced people would still clump together.
So I'm thinking a fine spray of motor oil. What kind of oil would anyone suggest? Dino or synthetic?
