Cost is similar at dealer (Shaker SAAB) vs. indie (unnamed Saab/Volvo/VW specialist in Orange and Cleveland Hts)
Indie had performed poor work on my car numerous times, and I came back for more so they could fix mistakes. The couldn't troubleshoot a co-worker's Volvo electrical problem, either. After a few unsuccessful visits, my coworker (an electrical engineer) asked for the drawings and traced the problem to a relay. They failed to check it. He was furious after spending nearly a grand for no results.
Indie would sell aftermarket parts at dealer prices. rip-off!!!!
3 SAABS, and my dealer was right on, every time.
Mount/Balance tires and align with Tirerack.com tires was CHEAPER at the dealer.
Added Bonus - Pat Price (TSN Poster and SAAB/Volvo/Yacht guru) works at the dealer.
On the other hand, Mike Shaw SAAB in Denver didn't know C900's to save their life. Mile-Hi body shop is great.
SWEDECAR in the L.A. area rocks for an indie.
There are good and bad dealers and indies. The bummer is sometimes we have to figure this out the hard way!
