Best GPS Car Navigation system?

I'm fantasizing about a road-trip to Homer, Alaska driving most of the
way on Alcan highway (boo yah! ... I've been thinking about this
one ever since Insomnia. I have a thing for Hillary Swank. Is that
wrong?!?) Sounds like a disaster waitin' to happen,
right. Nope. I may be one crazy bastard, but I'm not stupid.
What's the best GPS in-car navigation system? I want something small
enough so that I can stuff it in driver's side Kangaroo pouch so that
valet does not score him a $1,000 hardware while breaking my reverse
lock, and I would like something for which new CD ROM maps are readily
available and not too expensive.
Please Help a fellow Saab owner find his way through Canadian/Alaskan wilderness.
:-)
Cheers,
jae
