is the gauge of the string. The gas units have thicker string which breaks inside less often. I used to mow lawns commercially and this made a huge difference in time and alleviated a lot of frustration. As for starting issues, one simply need be familiar with the particular machine. IE: cold start- x many pumps on the primer bulb, warm start- x many... The extra power is worthwhile too. Electrics just plain suck- plus they tend to be awkward due to the motor placement at the business end.
